Since arriving in the Durham region, a simple problem that existed is finding quality car washing and mobile car detailing. Established in the Durham area, Salience wants to cater to busy, conscientious professionals and business owners who want to take care of their cars but lack the time and/ or knowledge to provide quality care.
Salience is offering expert trained service from world renown Detail King of the USA, which allows us to uniquely solve the problem that people experience between choosing the present necessary evil of automatic washes and the annoying pet peeves of children and adolescents scribbling or writing “wash me” on their dirty car. Salience understands that people are tired, and busy. People find this type work to be taxing, and mundane which invariably pushes people to take the path of least resistance and fall into choosing between the gaping consuming mouths of the automatic wash with the available options: the touchless almost clean option or the seemingly clean pounding of brushes or sharp bristles that is still incapable of cleaning off mud, and ice.
ABOUT MARC
Marc Belhomme is the founder and owner of Salience Detailing, a mobile auto detailing company that prides itself on standing out with superb customer care with the offerings of a shop on wheels. Marc has a passion for automobiles that stems from his childhood and over 20 years of detailing experience on his parents driveway and garage. The passion became a business idea when his sister in law was thoroughly impressed with a job in detailing the family car. At first, the fear of losing the passion within the grind of business resulted in being apprehensive. However, after moving from Quebec to Ontario in my field as an educator, the realities of starting over on a 10 year career in teaching motivated a journey into the car detailing industry as a supplemental income to teaching. Prior to teaching, I spent 15 years in the health service industry, where my attention to detail was honed and fully applicable to automotive detailing, from upkeeping the physical spaces in hospitals to meting out goods in a timely, and efficient manner in the food industry.
The year was 2019, the journey as an owner began with trying to find a name for the company, which became daunting as expected, the obvious names were already taken. However, my educational background and profession as an English Literature and History teacher provided a toolbox of skills that bourne out the name “Salience”, which captured my desire to standout from the crowd. Thus, understanding that the average consumer may not be sure of its meaning, Belhomme quickly penned a slogan that defined its meaning and vision at once: “The Choice is Obvious”. Defining the commitment to excellence in customer satisfaction. The owner recognized early as the search for a name began that there must be some formal training, when operating a professional business. Moreover, the administration of the business requires some clarity and direction. Consequently, the searches yielded training in detailing at the world renown Detail King in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA for a 3 day craftsman and Ceramic Detailing on a separate occasion for 2 days. In addition, BACD (Business Advisory Centre Durham) provided the guidance and classes in the major areas for business start ups, which also provided a platform for networking.
Salience Detailing began officially in the year 2020 during the pandemic offering services to fight Coronovirus and has kept satisfying customers every spring and summer in the Greater Toronto Area, from Durham, Markham, Scarborough to Toronto, Aurora, Peel to Niagara Falls. In 2024, the owner became a member of IDA (International Detailers Association) a world wide body that aims to bring detailers together and standardize the detailing process for greater effectiveness and improved customer satisfaction. In 2021, Salience Detailing won Durham Reader's Digest award for best detailer, joined BNI and the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, briefly. Salience Detailing aims to continue “sharpening the saw” to keep up with industry standards and continue delivering outstanding results for its customers. Eventually, when Marc Belhomme’s educator’s career ends in retirement, a full-time detailing operator employing passionate individuals is one of several goals to be accomplished.
